Understanding Real's Stock Awards (2026 Agent Guide)
How do stock awards work at Real Brokerage? Real agents earn shares of REAX stock through capping, attracting agents, Elite Agent production, and an optional Stock Purchase Plan. Nearly all awards are restricted stock units with a 1- to 3-year vesting period.
Most agents I talk to in the Inland Empire and across my Texas markets already know Real's commission structure — 85/15 split, a $12,000 annual cap, 100% after that. What they usually can't explain is the equity side. And that's the part that quietly compounds.
Real Brokerage trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker REAX. That means the stock you earn as an agent isn't a points system or an internal credit — it's ownership in a publicly traded company. But "free stock" is an oversimplification that does agents a disservice. There are rules, thresholds, and vesting periods attached to every program, and the details changed in 2026.
Here's the plain-English breakdown of every way an agent earns equity at Real, what it takes to qualify, and what to actually pay attention to before you count on any of it.
The Four Ways You Earn Stock at Real
Real builds equity into the everyday mechanics of production. You don't apply for it. You trigger it by hitting milestones.
1. The Capping Award
When you pay Real your full annual cap during your anniversary year, you earn a share award automatically. The award scales with your cap level: 150 shares at the $12K cap, 75 shares at the $6K cap, and 50 shares at the $4K cap.
These are restricted stock units with a three-year vesting period, and you have to remain in good standing with Real throughout that window. That's the piece agents skip over. Capping earns you the grant; staying earns you the shares.
2. Attraction Shares
If you bring another agent to Real and they close their first qualified transaction with at least $2,000 in GCI, you earn shares for it. The attraction award is 75 shares at the $12K cap level, 35 shares at $6K, and 25 shares at $4K — also RSUs on a three-year vest. If you're listed as a co-sponsor rather than the sole sponsor, you receive half of those amounts.
This is separate from revenue share, which pays in cash. Attraction shares pay in equity. Most agents who build a team at Real end up earning both.
3. Elite Agent Awards
This is the big one, and it's the program that changed this year.
Elite Agent status is reached after you cap and then either pay $6,000 in post-cap transaction fees, or close more than $500,000 in GCI along with 10 transactions of $1 million or more in value. All qualifiers have to be met within a single anniversary year.
The production award has historically been $16,000 in stock. As of September 1, 2026, that award drops to $12,000 US, and the Elite post-cap transaction fee drops to $100 per transaction. If you're close to Elite status right now, that date matters to your math.
There's also a separate Elite Agent Cultural Award of $8,000 in stock for agents who reach Elite status and then contribute back to the agent community — typically by teaching approved monthly topics through Real Academy. Both Elite awards are RSUs on a three-year vest.
4. The Stock Purchase Plan
The first three programs are awards. This one is a purchase — and it comes with a match.
Agents can elect to have a portion of their commission withheld to buy REAX shares: 5% before cap and 10% after cap, with contribution caps that vary by cap level. Real then adds a bonus on top of what you contribute — 10% before cap and 15% after cap.
SPP shares vest in one year rather than three, and shares are purchased at the closing fair market value on the last trading day of the month the commissions are distributed. You can opt out at any time, but once you do, you can't opt back in until your anniversary reset date.
What "Vesting" Actually Means for Your Business
Vesting is the single most misunderstood part of this. A three-year vest means the shares are granted now but become yours later — and only if you're still an agent in good standing at Real when that date arrives.
Practically, that creates a rolling balance. An agent who caps every year for four years has awards from year one fully vested while years two, three, and four are still maturing. Leaving mid-cycle forfeits whatever hasn't vested.
That's not a criticism of the model; it's how equity compensation works at most public companies. But it should factor into how you evaluate a move, and it's why I'd never tell an agent in Riverside County or Lake Travis to switch brokerages for the stock alone. The stock is a multiplier on a business that already works. It isn't the business.
How to Think About REAX as an Asset
A few things worth being clear-eyed about:
- It's a real equity position with real volatility. REAX is a growth-stage company, and the share price moves. Awards denominated in shares (capping, attraction) fluctuate in value; awards denominated in dollars (Elite) convert to shares at grant.
- The programs get adjusted. The September 2026 changes to the Elite award are a live example. Terms are set by Real's board and can be revised.
- Awards are taxable. RSUs generally create a tax event when they vest, not when they're granted. Talk to your CPA about how that lands in your specific situation.
I'm a real estate agent, not a financial advisor, and none of this is investment advice. Real's official program documentation is the authority on current terms — you can read the full breakdown in Real's 8 Ways to Earn Income article, the Elite Agent Program page, and the Stock Purchase Plan Agreement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to buy stock to earn stock at Real? No. The capping, attraction, and Elite awards are granted based on production and sponsorship, with no purchase required. The Stock Purchase Plan is entirely optional and separate.
What happens to my Real stock if I leave the brokerage? Shares that have already vested are yours. Unvested RSUs are generally forfeited, since every award program requires you to remain in good standing through the vesting period.
Is the Elite Agent award changing in 2026? Yes. For agents reaching Elite status on or after September 1, 2026, the production award moves from $16,000 to $12,000 US, and the Elite post-cap transaction fee drops to $100 per transaction.
